Job Summary
The Business Development Manager will lead, manage & execute the company’s overall business development strategy with a strong focus on growth, team leadership, and market expansion, ensuring alignment with Shariah principles and corporate goals. This role is more senior and leadership-focused role; responsible for identifying new business opportunities, driving revenue growth, building strategic partnerships, achieving sales targets and overseeing the performance of the business development team.

Key responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:
• Develop and implement the company’s business development strategy in line with the CEO’s vision and company objectives
• Identify and evaluate new market opportunities, distribution channels, and strategic partnerships to grow the Takaful portfolio
• Play a key role in setting annual business targets and ensuring achievement through robust execution plans.

Team Management:
• Lead, supervise, and motivate the entire business development team including sales, agents, consultants and support staff
• Set clear performance indicators and performance expectations, conducting regular reviews and coaching for performance improvement
• Oversee training of business development personnel.

Market Development & Expansion:
• Spearhead initiatives to increase brand presence and market share in all the Takaful segments
• Explore new geographical markets and client segments in line with Takaful principles and market demand
• Establish strong relationships with the banks, brokers, corporate clients and government bodies to ensure strategic deals.

Client Relationship Management:
• Act as a senior representative of the company in key client negotiations and high-value proposals
• Provide excellent customer services by maintaining strong relationships with clients and ensure high client satisfaction and retention.

Product & Marketing Collaboration:
• Work closely with Product, Marketing, underwriting and Shariah teams to ensure that Takaful offerings are competitive, complaint, and well-positioned in the market
• Guide development of sales tools, campaigns, and market education initiatives to promote Takaful awareness.

Compliance & Reporting:
• Ensure all business development activities adhere strictly to regulatory and Shariah compliance requirements
• Prepare detailed business development reports and dashboards for presentation to the CEO and Board members
• Conduct research and competitor analysis; monitor industry trends and provide strategic insights to senior leadership.

Qualification and work experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Finance, Marketing or related field. MBA is preferred.
• Professional certification (e.g. CII, AIS or any relevant field) in insurance service is an added advantage.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in sales or business development, with at least 3 years in leadership role within Takaful insurance.
• Strong understanding of Islamic finance and Takaful operational models (Wakalah, Mudharabah, etc.)
• Proven track records in managing large portfolios, and ability to deliver and achieve an ambitious sales target.

Language required
Proficiency in Somali and English languages, both written and spoken.

Working conditions
This is an office-based position, however, may require site visits.
